All Saints' Winter Warming Shelter
All Saints’ has committed to opening our parish hall as a temporary emergency warming shelter during the cold winter. When the temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, the church welcomes unhoused guests overnight from 5:00pm to 9:00am. Up to 25 guests receive a warm place to sleep, hot dinner, and breakfast, served by volunteers in 4-hour shifts.
A generous grant from the 3 Rivers Community Foundation and an anonymous matching donation provide professional security for volunteers and guests. We have inflatable mattresses, camping beds, sleeping bags, pillows, linens, blankets, toiletries, and clean, warm gloves, hats, and clothing.
Our unwavering generosity from parishioners and community members is essential for this shelter. Our primary ministry is hospitality, providing shelter, food, safety, comfort, and care. We respect and value each person seeking shelter, recognizing that we are all made in God’s image.

History of the Shelter
On December 22, 2022, our annual Christmas party, Candles and Carols, was held in our parish hall. However, the outside temperature plummeted to the single digits with a biting wind chill. Concerned about the lack of warming shelters during the holidays, parishioners suggested opening the hall to address the need. With approval from the Senior Warden and Rev. Jane Schmoetzer, the work began that night.
Opening the shelter without preparation was challenging, but thanks to God’s providence and our neighbors’ generosity, All Saints’ provided a safe and warm place for 14 guests over 11 days. In early 2024, with a more comprehensive plan, we hosted an average of 15 guests per night. Collaborations with local groups strengthened our efforts, and we are grateful for everyone’s support, whether through time, talent, or financial contributions.
